Tach'shitim (Choir)
Tach’shitim literally means "jewels," a fitting and appropriate name for the choir. As jewels enhance one’s appearance with their beauty and value, we strive to enhance the beauty and value of our services with singing. Formed by Michael Mandel, Deb Hyman, and Fred Fishman in the late 1980s,
Tach’shitim has evolved into the ensemble that sings regularly at High Holy Days and Shabbat services and has co-led Yizkor and Shabbat services.
In 1996 and again in 1998, Tach’shitim performed with The Metropolitan Chorus in public concerts,
and in 1997, the Arlington-Fairfax Jewish Congregation invited Tach’shitim to sing at a Shabbat service
during Chanuka. The choir rehearses in members’ homes throughout the year, usually on Tuesday evenings.
Our busiest time is between May and September when we prepare for the High Holy Days. You don’t need to
have a solo-quality voice to be a member, but you should be able to read music and carry a tune. Sopranos
are given special consideration.
